Goddess Gyuri States Dead Group KARA Is Actually Not Dead

A few months ago, we all gathered to finally release the poor undead spirit of KARA from this mortal coil. With the contracts of Hara, Seungyeon and Gyuri lapsing and each going on to sign with different agencies (leaving Youngji in the sleepy grips of DSP) everyone rightfully assumed that, at long last, KARA was no more.

However, in a recent interview, ex-KARA leader and always-goddess Gyuri basically implied that KARA is the Greyjoys of K-Pop (minus the whole being huge assholes thing) and what is dead may never die.

I think even though KARA haven’t disbanded or anything, because we’re all now under different labels, our activities together as a group will become more scarce. But aside from KARA, I want to be active individually. Because I started out as a child actress, I’m thinking I want to try go deeper into acting rather than singing.”

As for people referring to KARA as “disbanded” these days, Gyuri stated, “The honest truth is just that we’ve split up into different labels, but the simplest way to describe that is by saying that we’ve ‘disbanded,’ so people who aren’t fully aware seem to be expressing it as if we’ve really disbanded.”

She further added, “We keep in close contact with one another. We’ve been talking about finding a good opportunity to release an album and promote as KARA. And even though we meet up privately a lot, sometimes we like to update our SNS accounts with pictures together just to let our fans know, ‘We’re all doing well, so please don’t worry about us.’ None of us want to worry our fans.”

The contractual logistics of a potential KARA comeback would probably yield more paperwork than an international peace treaty but far be it from me to even try to mock the idea of KARA somehow making music in the future. More Gyuri and Hara is never a bad thing.

And hey, if separate labels and divergent career paths aren’t prohibitive hurdles to a KARA comeback and we’re reaching for the impossible skies here… would it be too much to also wish for Nicole and Jiyoung to be a part of this? Because that would be rad.

  1. 10 points for the Game of Thrones reference. The proper response is “But rises again harder and stronger”, which *ahem* incidentally also sums up my reaction as well.

    1. Damn, you’re so right about that.

Have you never even seen Pet Cemetery? Sometimes dead is better. What comes back isn’t the same. Although I would probably let Gyuri and company eat my flesh if they came back as zombies.

  3. Don’t tease us like this.

    1. Don’t blame me, blame the Goddess.
