In news which is only partly surprising because it hasn’t happened already, Taeyeon is reportedly in the midst of planning her very first solo album.
It will be the first time that a member of SNSD has released a solo effort.
It has been reported that Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon is in the middle of gearing up for a new solo album. Aiming for a release in the first half of the year, she is currently gathering songs to be included in the album.
With how SM Entertainment has prioritized solo efforts as of late (f(x)’s Amber is set to have her own solo debut next month), the mining of the SNSD well was inevitable. The Taeyeon nod makes all the sense in the world for SM Entertainment as well. Taeyeon is the leader of SNSD and, despite netizen tomfoolery over her private life, she is as close to the total package as one can find in SNSD (the only other obvious candidates are her TaeTiSeo sub-unit mates Seohyun and Tiffany). She can dance, she has good stage presence and she can sing (albeit, in a slightly sterile way that can be lackluster at times).
It will be interesting to see if Taeyeon’s solo effort will differ at all from SNSD’s usual look and style. TaeTiSeo’s looks and concepts, while vaguely glitzier than SNSD’s standard fare, didn’t stray too far from their main group’s and SM Entertainment isn’t one to take many risks (hell, even choosing Taeyeon to kick off the SNSD solo efforts reeks of playing it safe). However, if the Taeyeon solo album includes a comeback video complete with Byuntaeng in all of her glory, I will stand happily corrected.
