SECRET’s Hana Changed Her Name From Zinger Because Of A Damn Burger

Death by Zinger is a Thing.

To be fair, this is probably a fortunate coincidence for Hana because “Zinger” is a horrible name for a pop star. The real lesson? Don’t compete with fast food chains for nicknames names. You’ll lose.

On the August 15th episode of JTBC’s “Witch Hunt”, Hana revealed that the reason she changed her name from Zinger wasn’t because of artistic maturation or a sudden realization that “Zinger” sounds more like a pesticide than it does a name. No, the reason that Hana is now Hana is that “Zinger” is also a KFC burger and search engines would prioritize KFC’s “Zinger” over SECRET’s Zinger:

As the girls were being introduced, the MCs brought up the fact that Hana used to go by Zinger as her stage name.

Sung Si Kyung joked, “It’s probably because she got mistaken for a burger a lot” (In reference to the KFC Zinger Burger). Hearing this, fellow MCs Shin Dong Yup, Heo Ji Woong and Hong Suk Chun asked, “Wait, really? Is that really the reason?”

Hyosung chuckled and said, “She was pushed aside by the burger...” and Hana admitted it really was the case. “If you would search my name, you’d get more results about the burger first. So I decided it wasn’t going to work out,” she said.

I guess we’ll never have a K-Pop rapper named Big Mac now.

As an aside, no one tell Hyosung that this is the first thing that comes up when typing “Hyosung” into an image search engine:

Hyosung GT 650 R

  1. Well at least it is a sport bike named Hyosung and not a chopper or cruiser bike for middle-aged couples.

    1. Ah, yes. But she is built for comfort, not for speed.

Shut up. It sounded good in my head.

      1. It’s ok, I’ve had plenty of those in my writing.
