KARA’s Music Video Teaser for “Damaged Lady” is the Stuff of Goodness

All hail KARA, as the group’s kickoff campaign for “Damaged Lady” is almost utterly flawless.

KARA has been teasing the shit out of “Damaged Lady”, it’s first Korean single since the relatively disappointing “Pandora”. While “Pandora” wasn’t bad by any means, it lacked a certain emotional punch that the group’s better singles (“STEP” and “Lupin”) managed to capture through a combination of solid productions and winning vocals (also, having KARA as the face of it all makes everything better). The second music video teaser for “Damaged Lady” seems to have remembered that KARA is at its best when they are given music which gives them room to breathe and sing. Also, be hnnnggg.

The synths at the beginning of the teaser are wonderfully and giddily light, with a long bellowing “yyyeeeeaaaaahhh” over it that hits the warm and fuzzies on the insides. It’s followed by a surprisingly aggressive, but fun, electric guitar grind that sounds like it was originally supposed to be for a second song, a technique which KARA has used before in “Lupin” to great effect. As for what things look like, there’s very little to complain about:

ALL THE MIDRIFF.

ALL THE MIDRIFF.

GIVE ME ALL THE MIDRIFF.

GIVE ME ALL THE MIDRIFF.

ZOMG SO PERFECT, I’M GONNA SPAZZ SO —

Oh Nicole, you almost made it through an entire music video with amazing hair.

… Oh, I see.

Now, the masculine concept is one that has been teased since the very first image for KARA’s comeback, but does that mean that we HAVE to make KARA look like the travelling Three Stooges? No one has looked good in that hair style since the 1970’s, guys or girls. Leave that wig for the Jackie Chan bio-epic that will inevitably be made in twenty years.

Minor quibble aside, this looks like it’s going to be fantastic.

  1. The music video looks awesome but I’m not sure about the song yet.

That sexy whisper at the beginning reminds me of an SNSD song, only so much better. If only GG could take all their “rap” and turn it into that. That would be pure kpop gold.

    1. If SNSD has a blind spot, it’s with “sexy” and “rap”. You would think that one of them would have gotten more training in it since, well, there’s nine of them for God’s sake.

The day that SNSD sexes up their act to KARA’s level here will be a happy day indeed.
